Abstract

A magnetic alternating field is produced whose induction vector (B) runs at right angles to the displacement direction of a component, the component (1) being inserted into the alternating field. Arranged in the alternating field is at least one closed current-carrying circuit (2) whose plane is at right angles to the induction vector (B) of the field. The circuit (2) is offset with respect to the geometrical centre of the component (1). In the case of a device for carrying out the present method, a multi-element plate (30) is located in the area in which the magnetic field acts, and a coil (32) is arranged in each individual part (31) of the plate. The device is provided with a control panel (36) which is designed in the form of a set of contacts (35) the number and arrangement of which corresponds to the number and arrangement of the parts (31) of the plate (30). One connecting wire (33) of each coil (32) is connected to the respective contact (35) of the control panel (36) and its other connecting wire (34) is earthed. A non-magnetic electrically conductive component (37) can be asymmetric or symmetrical and, nevertheless can be displaced in any desired direction. The method can be used, for example, for the assembly of piece parts, for inspecting and sorting components of different shape and size or for adjusting components, for example heated steel billets, to a position which is required for their processing.
