Abstract

A separator for sepg. two immiscible liqs. of different densities, partic. oil and water, comprises a rectangular tank with a feed compartment at one end divided from and feeding into the main tank via a siphonic baffle. Outflow is by overflow from a compartment behind a second siphonic baffle at the other end of the tank. The base of the tank falls laterally from both sides to a longitudinal drain channel which can carry away heavy waste, settled sludge, etc. A surface skimmer blade extends across teh width of the tank and can be displaced longitudinally of the tank to sweep lighter phase waste into a collecting trough adjacent the outlet end siphonic baffle. The skimmer is pref. mounted on a roller carriage set on tank top rails. Vetical plates are pref. set up from the tank base inplanes parallel to the direction of liq. flow, Used for purificn.of waste water by elimination of settled sludge and floating scum. Partic. for sepg. impurities from industrial effluent, esp. from papermaking. The simple, inexpensive installation provides highly efficient purificn.
