Abstract

The phase locked loop, for a local oscillator in radar equipment, has a mixer (1) mixing a part of the transmit magnetron's (2) output with a part of the receive local oscillator's (5) output. The output of the mixer is limited (6) and passed via two paths to a phase detector (8) whose output controls the local oscillator. The two paths each contain a constant current source (12, 13), and a phase shifter. The first phase shifter is formed by an earthed capacitor (14) whilst the second is formed by an earthed RLC parallel resonant circuit (15). The voltage phase shift at the capacitor is -pi/2; and at the resonant circuit is zero at the IF frequency, -pi/2 at low frequencies and +pi/2 at high frequencies.
