Abstract

Device for pouring steel from one vessel located above another vessel, e.g. a ladle is located above a tundish or a mould in a continuous casting plant. The molten stream of steel is surrounded by a protective pipe so it is not exposed to sec. reactions with the other atmos. The protective pipe is made of a light insulating matl. which has pronounced thermal insulation properties. The pipe is pref. made of a silicate material, esp. contg. chamotte with addns. forming pores and providing thermal insulation, plus synthetic binders. The pipe is pref. located via permanent magnets on the base of a ladle and filled with gas, e.g. Ar, by tubes located in a seal. The molten stream is prevented from solidifying in the pipe due to heat losses.
