Abstract

The safety hook is attached to the snap hook forming part of a suspension cable and is used to automatically clamp the cable. It comprises a folded metal body and a spring loaded shaped lever oscillating inside it on a pivot. One side of the body is open and the remaining side has a single hole, used to fit the snap hook. This can move freely in the hole and, in the lower position, causes the shaped lever to clamp onto the cable. A lug on the lever contacts the snap hook to limit the clamping effect on the cable.
