Abstract

The intensive care bed is for invalids or injured persons and has a mattress adjustable for height or angle. The bed frame has a single motor (16), coupled to the mattress by a simple mechanical linkage, and used selectively to adjust the mattress height and its angle forwards or backwards. At each end of the mattress there may be one or more lifting links (6, 6') forming one side of a variable parallelogram pivoting on the frame. Variation of the parallelogram shape lifts the end of the link working with the mattress vertically.
