Abstract

The poultry are transported automatically, from their rearing shed to the waiting vehicle, by means of a series of belt conveyors (1). These are in short overlapping sections, leading to a final section (10) which elevates the poultry to a certain height. This point is near the vehicle. At the top of this final conveyor, the birds pass into a large hopper (13) and drop several centimetres onto a rotating table (15). This carries a number of cages (16e for carrying the birds. A counter is used to record the number. If required, a hood may be positioned over the conveyors, these being darkened.
