Abstract

The emergency brake is for use with rail-mounted cranes, operating automatically if dangerous operating conditions occur, e.g. if the crane should start to move when working on a gradient. A metal shoe is held in the ready position underneath a crane travel wheel by a movable or distorting suspension system, which in turn is controlled by a detect or unit. After braking it returns automatically to this position when the travel direction of the crane is reversed. The system can be held in position when the detector is open, being released when this closes.
