Abstract

A large diameter closed cylindrical body (101) surrounds inlet (105) and discharge (106) pipes each of which extends into the body and is perforated (109,110). A domed piston (120) slides in the gap between the inlet pipe and body and has a short perforated (119) cylindrical extension (118) with a closed end (117) which covers the end of the inlet pipe. The piston may be drawn along the body by means of a central shaft (115) which passes through the end face of the discharge pipe and is secured by a nut (116). The space between piston, body and discharge pipe is filled with special steel chips or wires, which are compressed by tightening the nut.
