Abstract

The tyre comprises anti-skid studs which can be pushed through the tread surface by pressurising elastic tubes beneath the tread surface. Each tube has an oval cross-section in the pressureless state, and is arranged in a ring-shape abutting against the radially inner surface of a larger recess in the tyre body. The tube is fixed to the inner surface of the recess, and also to the stud which has a collar for anchoring the tube, and is reinforced with textile material in the region of its attachment to the stud. In the pressureless state, the elasticity of shape of the tube pulls the stud radially inwards and holds it in this position. In this way neither coil springs mounted in the tyre body nor other auxiliary means are required to retract the studs.
