Abstract
The control system is for use on a machining and reaming machine tool holder, compensates for tool wear, and is mounted on the reaming head spindle. The head can reciprocate axially, and the tool is capable of relative radial displacements. The latter motion is effected by a shaft which traverses the spindle centre - the tool being slide-entrained by shaft translation. The shaft is motor driven with kinematic transmission which acts on a thrust unit. The thrust unit moves uniquely in translation, is mounted aft of the head, and is coupled in translation with the shaft. The motor is electrically controlled and is connected to the central bar which is free to reciprocate axially. A proximity detector is mounted on the thrust unit housing and discerns the passage of a bar datum relative to a reference point.
