Abstract

An automatic device for a ring frame spinning yarns from fibre having the staple length of wool or cotton, has a carriage running on overhead rails with a mechanism for locating and rejoining the broken threads, assembled in a housing, together with equipment for removing dust and waste, which is transported along the sides of the machine. A drive for the carriage is controlled in both directions by a separate unit; the carriage being slowed down and then stopped in front of the spindle with the broken threar or at the ends of the frame. A first group of two detection devices above the spindles lightly contact the threads they are monitoring, and put out a signal as they touch each thread. When a signal is omitted, an arrangements slows down and stops the carriage. A second group of three magnetic detectors is arranged with the detectors one behind the other in the direction of motion, at the height of the spindle feet. The centre detector locates the spindle and energises the leading detector of the first group in the direction of motion, and if the signal fails, indicating a broken thread, the following detector of the group of three, slows down the carriage, stops it at the spindle with the broken thread, and energises the details for locating and re-piercing the broken thread. System detects, locates and jois up the broken end automatically without the intervention of the operative. The operation takes place quickly and down time is reduced very considerably.
