Abstract

A cartridge of e.g., plastic adhesive or wax for loading into a distribution gun is formed by pouring molten material into a mould and cooling the surface of the mould and the free surface of the material so that a hard skin is formed. Cooling is effected by direct heat exchange with a cooling gas which flows pref. through a jacket around the mould and which is pref. directed as a jet from e.g., a nozzle onto the free surface of the material. Subsequently, the remaining material within the hard skin is cooled slowly to solidify. The material may be rendered liquid again by heating. The process is quicker and cheaper than conventional processes. The cartridge contains no impurities, e.g., water droplets.
