Abstract
Wall panels incorporate a layer of expanded polystyrene between layers of reinforced concrete. The vertical edges of the panels have large trapezoidal channels where tie wire loops from adjacent panels can overlap and be interlocked by rods passing through the loops. The vertical edges also define an interstitial small trapezoidal channel for accepting a supported seal and small hemispherical grooves for venting the interface. Used as modular wall elements for load bearing structures up to 10 floors high. Each panel may be the height of 1 storey, up to 4.5 m wide and weight up to 5 tonnes. The design provides continuity of the thermal insulation layer and freedom from potential thermal bridges, so that the 'K' value for thermal insulation of the structure is 1, typically about 0.5 W/m2 degrees C.
