Abstract

The medicaments contain new nicotinamide N-ethyl thionicotinate (I) or its salts: (I) has antilipolytic, hypocholesterolemic, and heptato-protecting activity. In pharmacological tests, 117 mg./kg. (I) p.o. reduced by 80% the non-esterified fatty acids and by 70% the triglycerides in the plasma of rats fasting for 17 hours. At 233 mg./kg. p.o. rats (I) reduced by 90% the lipolytic activity of noradrenaline.
