Abstract

The helmet is of transparent plastic, for wearing by the members of a surgical team in an operating theatre through which sterile air flows vertically. Once fitted, the only communication with the outside is via a top opening at the front (4), shaped to aid the entry of air inside the helmet, and via a foul air outlet at the bottom rear, also if required by side or rear openings in the helmet. The top front opening can have a visor at the front, acting as a funnel for the incoming air. There can be a pad of cloth impermeable to bacteria fixed to the base of the helmet, securing it to the body of the wearer.
