Abstract

A telephone power supply is used to provide current to public telephones. It has a power connection to the telephone network before lifting the receiver of the telephone. The power supply unit, as shown in the only figure, has bridge rectifier (D) and a capacitor (C) connected to the telephone lines (a, b) by means of the contacts (s) of a relay (S). A resistor (R) limits the current to the bridge rectifier (D). The telephone line (b) has a converter (E) which provides a stabilised supply voltage to a Zener diode (Z) and a payment unit (U). The unit is connected to a telephone (T). During the period of no communication, the telephone (T) is disconnected and the capacitor (C) is charged and supplies current. When the receiver of the telephone (T) is lifted, the relay (S) is excited and switches the contacts (s) to disconnect the supply through the bridge rectifier (D) and the converter (E) then supplies the current.
