Abstract
The device indicates the pH of the water in an aquarium. A transparent receiver (3) is immersed in the water (5) of the aquarium (1). This receiver has an aperture which is permeable to gases but impermeable to the water in the aquarium under conditions of complete immersion. The aperture may be a cover or cap on the upper end of the receiver or, alternatively, on its lower end. In another arrangement, covers are provided on both ends of the receiver. The receiver contains a liquid pH indicator, and a section containing an air cushion (6). The coloration of the liquid indicator determines the pH of the water. The method depends on the use of the carbon dioxide content of the water as a measure of its pH. The device obviates the need to take a sample of the water.
