Abstract

Polymers is composed of >=1 copolymerised sequence based on 1,3-butandiene and acrylonitrile and >=2 polyamide sequences, and is obtd. by anionic polymerisation of a (a) polymerisable lactam in the presence of (b) a butadieneacrylonitrile copolymer with acyl lactam terminal gps. Used for mfr. of flexible prods. resistant to crude petroleum. These copolyamides produce a novel type of thermoplastic rubber having good resistance to temp., low gas permeability and low swelling by hydrocarbons. Pref. copolymer (b) has an ave. mol. wt. of 1000-250,000, and contains 5-50% acrylonitrile w.r.t. the total wt. of butadiene + acrylonitrile. Each polyamide sequence has an av. mol. wt. of 500-100000. The preferred polymerisable lactam (a) is epsilon-caprolactam and each polyamide sequence thus comprises nylon-6.
