Abstract

Syringe is of the type having a container of liq. to be injected joined to a hypodermic needle. The container is fixed inside a box to which is fixed a pump cylinder piped to the container. The suction end of the syringe is fitted thro, and fixed to a coaxial piston which is axially movable in the cylinder. Opposed action non-return valves are fitted in the container outlet and the syringe outlet so that reciprocation of the piston in the cylinder pumps liq. first from container to cylinder and then from cylinder to syringe. As the piston is moved into the cylinder the corresp. displacement of the syringe is pref. used to load a spring. Release of the spring load automatically drives the point of the needle through the skin of the patient. Syringe may be used for periodic medical injections, partic. insulin for diabetic patients. The equipment is simply and inexpensively designed and very easily operated.
