Abstract

The joint is used for laying of drainage pipes underground without prior trenching, and permits sealed pipe joints to be obtained with sufficient radial flexibility to withstand transverse stresses. The joints can also resist longitudinal stresses arising from driving the pipes through the ground. The pipe (2) is first pushed through the soil. The joint member (3) is fitted to the projecting end section, and then to the next pipe (1) by means of a weld bead (4) at the external end of the radial flange (3a). The upper end of this flange (3a) is chamfered to accommodate the weld bead (4) without causing projections on the outer surface of the pipes. The pipes (2, 1) can now be driven further through the ground by applying pressure on the other end of the pipe.
