Abstract

The emulsion is contacted with two fibrous materials, one contg. fibres of which the surface has oleophilic and hydrophobic properties, the other contg. fibres of polycrystalline refractory metallic oxides. This coalesces the oil droplets and they are then sepd. The oleophilic fibres have dia. 10-100 mu m. The metallic oxides fibres are of alumina, silica, or zirconia, dia. 10 mu m. Pref. oleophilic and hydrophobic fibrous material contains fibres the surface of which is impregnated with finely divided particles having oleophilic and hydrophobic properties.
