Abstract

A printing process for non-magnetic material in web form involves the placing near the web of magnetic particles. A magnetic field is generated to influence the particles and the material so that the particles are drawn onto the web in the desired configuration. Before the web passes between electromagnets (19) and the particle reservoir (27), its surface is coated with a the particle reservoir (27), its surface is coated with a thin adhesive layer by an applicator (6). Following the printing process the printed surface is dried by e.g. an infra-red lamp or a warm air blower (7) before being coiled onto a take-up spool. In one application the design to be printed is copied electro-optically from a reference pattern (34).
