Abstract

New cyclopentanecarboxylic acids are of formula (I): In (I) R1 is Me or Et and R2 is H, or R1 is H and R2 is Me or Et, R3 and R4 are H or lower alkyl). Cpds. (I) and their esters and salts are appetite depressants. Their activity is much higher than that of the other cpds. described in the Parent PAtent, and they have low toxicity (e.g. 1500-5000 mg/kg p.o., mouse). In an example, a mixt. of (I, R3O = 2-MeO, R4O = 5-MeO, R1 = H, R2 = Me) and the corresp. cpd. where R1=Me and R2 = H, is prepd. by reacting D(+)-camphoric anhydride with 1,3-dimethoxybenzene in the presence AlCl3.
