Abstract
The machine minimises unwanted oscillatory phenomena normally overcome by the use of inductances, which in affecting the circuit power factor reduce the overall efficiency. Such synchronous alternators driven from turbines etc. will normally be three phase units intended to drive, after rectification, D.C. motors. A transverse field inductance with a time constant for transistory effects is fitted to the generator excitation winding creating a longitudinal resistance damping conductors, sited in two slots in each such pole.
