Abstract

The blast furnace (3) is supplied with air from the fan (1) and heater (2). The exhaust gases from the blast furnace (3) then pass through a cooler (4) and dust extractor (5). The gases then pass through a system of control valves (7, 8, 9, 10) to the two-stage turbine (11) which drives the generator (14). When the pressure of the gases is high, they pass through both stages (11a, 11b) of the turbine. When the pressure is low, a valve in the low pressure line is closed and the gases flow directly through the bypass (24) to the outlet. The bypass valve enables the turbine to work at maximum efficiency over a wide pressure range.
