Abstract

The output shaft (10) of the electric windscreen wiper motor drives a larger diameter output gear (14) with a reduction worm drive. The output shaft for the wiper arm is driven by a reciprocating cam segment (21) at the end of the stub and mounted through the centre of the drive gear. Another gear segment (22) is pivotted on the drive housing cover about an eccentric axis (24) to mesh with the first gear segment. A circular groove (28) in the drive gear provides the reciprocating drive to the segments, with the groove eccentric to the drive gear. The system provides few moving components in a simple layout. The eccentric groove can be circular or even oval if the wipers are to have special characteristics.
