Abstract

A ship which acts as a floating dock, can house barges (6a) carrying cargo (7) and pontoons (6b) which may carry items (8) mounted on wheeled carriages. The hold (2) in which they float, has its base (3) above the outside water level (5) when the ship is fully loaded or empty. This hold is nearly the full length of the ship, and is positioned between ballast tanks, each side. These tanks are used for stabilisation and floatation, and also extend nearly the length of the ship. The charging and discharging opening is at the stern, closed by a partition (4). After loading, the water is discharged from the hold. The hold can be divided into two by a partition.
