Abstract

The machine prints previously selected symbols on a strip pulled off a storage roll and divided into labels by a parting mechanism, and incorporates a number of character wheels set into the desired positions. The strip is pressed against the wheels, which are covered by an inking ribbon. The machine has one or more additional printing units (50), producing on the strip (34) characters in addition to those printed by the main mechanism (14). These units can be used to print characters on the opposite side of the strip to the main one. They can each have a roller carrying the characters, the strip passing between them and pressure rollers (58).
