Abstract
Moderator structure for the core of a molten fuel salt type nuclear reactor, comprises a stack of individual nodules in a space delimited by upper and lower base elements and a lateral reflector, these nodules having mutual contacts in the three dimensions which prevent their relative displacement, and producing a grid of apertures through which the molten salt is circulated. Advantageously, the nodules are identical spheres of moderator material. Enables the moderator elements to be handled without subjecting them to tensile stresses to which graphite elements show poor resistance, and by subdividing of the nodules reduce as far as possible bending effects.
