Abstract

The guide system, for a magnetic transducer head, is used to guide the head relative to a planar recording medium, with one or more magnetic recording tracks for digital or analogue information. It uses one or more guide tracks associated with each of the recording tracks, to allow the head to be guide without contacting the recording medium. The transducer head may be guided optially by one or more light beams which are directed onto the reflective guide track, or the guide track may be transparent to allow the light beams to be detected directly.
