Abstract

The data transmission system uses differential pulse code modulation with variable intervals, the digital data relating to the amplitude variations between successive samples of the analogue signal to be transmitted being transcoded according to a variable length code. The transcoding is reserved for the data corresponding to a non-redundant state, the data corresponding to a redundant state only being taken into account if that state is repeated more than twice successively. Each transcoded data comprises a first part relating to the amplitude variation information and a second part relating to the time interval information, using a variable length code for time intervals up to a given value and fixed length code for time intervals above this value.
