Abstract
The sleeve is knitted with a glass thread using a conventional knitting stitch such as stocking or jersey stitch. The glass thread is pref. knitted together with a second thread of rougher surface and of narrower gauge. When the artificial limb is moulded in a synthetic resin, such as acrylic, polyester or polyamide, the second thread of the knitted sleeve can be of the same synthetic resin so that the thread fuses with the moulded material during moulding. The sleeve is strong and can often be used singly or in pairs to replace 4-8 of the previous fishnet sleeves. The single sleeve produces an artificial limb of much smoother texture and appearance than previous sleeves. It can be made in a wide range of dias on a single, straight-through loom.
