Abstract

A set of plates and separators is used in lead-acid batteries. The plates (3, 4) and the separator (5) are part of a sub-assembly. The plates (3, 4) are made of lead and have holes (9). The separateor (5) has ridges (6) which make up square recesses on both sides of the separator. The thickness (e) of the ridge (6) is set by the required capacity and discharge capability of the battery. The separator is made of insulating material. The electrochemically active material (8) is contained by the recesses of the separator and the holes (9) of the plates.
