Abstract
The device for the measurement of positional variation produces a voltage, e.g. a dc voltage, proportional to the linear motion of the object over the region of interest. The device can cope with rapid large movements without the necessity of an iron core for the flat measurement coils, which are mounted essentially opposite each other, by varying the coupling between the coils using a metal screen (16) moving between them. A higher operating frequency is made possible, a high frequency voltage being supplied to the exciter coil (12) from a generator (11). The screen (16) is attached to the object whose movement is to be measured. The other flat coil (15) acts as a secondary winding driving a suitable measuring circuit (18) whose output voltage represents the position.
