Abstract

Fuel is supplied to an engine by the pump (P) which is driven by an eccentric mounted on the camshaft. This ensures that the quantity of fuel supplied is proportional to engine speed. The stroke of the pump (P) is varied by capsules (CP, CT, CP1) which sense atmospheric pressure, temperature and manifold pressure respectively. The fuel flow from the pump can be cut off completely by the electro-magnetic by-pass valve (S). This valve operates when the engine speed exceeds the intended speed of the vehicle as for example during deceleration. The engine speed may be measured by a computer counting ignition impulses or by a tachometer.
