Abstract
A thread of continuous filaments is treated by a jet of fluid under pressure, in a device having a lengthways running channel for the thread, with inlet and outlet openings. A duct for the fluid under pressure opens into the thread channel at an angle and between the connection of the feed duct to the channel and the thread outlet, there is an expansion chamber for the fluid. The channel for the thread is sectionalised and is cylindrical at the inlet with a second coaxial cylindrical section of larger dia. The expansion chamber is integral with the larger section of the channel but has a very much larger cross section, whilst the equally coaxial outlet of the expansion chamber is smaller in dia. than the second section of the thread channel. From a distribution chamber for the compressed fluid, a number of ducts open into the channel for the thread at an angle of about 30 degrees. Design uses much less compressed air. Allows much higher throughput speeds and reduces the number of broken filaments.
