Abstract

The lid is e.g. circular or rectangular and has an edge groove which is fitted over the edge of the container. The shape of the groove is such that it forms an effective seal all the way round. The sides of the groove are ribbed for additional strength. A similar groove (8) in the lid has a smaller diameter than the first so that the second groove will fit, in the same way as the first, over a smaller container when the centre of the lid is removed from the lid along a line a weakness (4) between the two grooves. The line of weakness is broken by pulling on a cord (7) extending along the line of weakness.
