Abstract
In the manufacture of star shaped three limb transformer cores it is required to eliminate undesirable air gaps at the core centre where the three limbs meet. This difficulty is overcome by making the limbs from a single piece of material. For example a ring of transformer core steel of appropriate diameter is placed in the centre of three rams (2). These rams are then driven inwards toward a common centre, and deform the ring into a three limbed star (1). A continuous iron path thus results. In an alternative form a V-shaped core element may be used thus giving continuity between adjacent limbs.
