Abstract

The buffer device is for vehicles whose load holder is on a frame (7) resting on a friction plate (9) fixed to the chassis frame (2). The buffer device consists of angled brackets bolted or welded to the load holder frame (7) and the chassis frame (2). An upper buffer element of synthetic resin or hard rubber is held to the upper bracket flange (15). A central buffer (22) of plastic foam held between the upper flange and holder plate (23) resting on the lower bracket flange (19) so that a bolt (16) passes through it and the hole (21) in the lower flange (19) into a third buffer conical shell element (26), filled with plastic foam. In a collision the load holder slides forward the bolt (16) swings anticlockwise between the brackets and tends to pull the conical third buffer element (26) through the hole in the lower bracket so that the buffer is deformed, thus absorbing the energy of the collision.
