Abstract

Prepn. machine for cabbages, for the mfr. of sauerkraut effects a notable redn. in man-power. it comprises a conveyor which brings the cabbages to an operator who transfers the cabbage onto a table. A measuring appts. is mounted at the end of a rod which can slide in provided bearings; it rests on the upper part of the cabbage and keeps the latter in position while the stump is drilled out by a boring tool, which can move upwards between slides. At the cutting posts, with its support table, two transfer arms grip the cabbage and move it between two horizontal, circular saws, each with its own motor. The prepd. cabbage is deposited on a conveyor and transferred to the next stage e.g. for the removal of the leaves. Waste of material and deterioration of the fibres of the cabbage are avoided; allowance is made in the machine for their size and condition.
