Abstract
In a system for examining a body by means of penetrating radiation, having (i) a source irradiating the body with a flat beam, (ii) a detector unit for the detection of the radiation and emission of output signals related to the absorption of the radiation by the body, intended to be processed to produce a representation of the distribution of the absorption in a plane section through the body and (iii) a device for scanning of the flat beam of radiation relative to the body, in order to irradiate the section along a series of beam paths passing through the body from differing directions, (a) the detector unit comprises a series of detectors, a pre-determined number of which are irradiated at any instant by the beam of radiation, and (b) the scanning device moves the beam of penetrating radiation over the detectors in order progressively to change the detectors irradiated. Advantageously a mechanism moves the source with respect to the body in order to produce at least part of the scanning by the beam of radiation.
