Abstract

The ion detector is suitable for hand held use, employing a space charge detector, rather than orthodox two electrode techniques. Ion density is not measured as such, but a predetermined level is indicated by a light source (12). The unit is in the form of a rectangular box (2) of some electrically insulating material with the space charge detector plate or probe (5) forming one of the end walls of the box. Power is provided by an internal battery (6) and is observed by the unit operating only when a push button (10) is depressed. The light source is an LED driven from a two transistor detection circuit.
