Abstract

Useful heat is gained by the gasification and combustion of coal in heat-insulated gasification chamber with enough primary air to release all volatile matter but not enough for complete combustion. Both the primary air and the secondary air, used to mix with the volatile matter and to burn in a combustion chamber, are preheated by contact with the gasifier walls. This produces thermal energy with a high efficiency. The percentage of burnt and unburnt matter in the flue gases is a minimum. The air pollution is reduced and the capital costs are lowered.
