Abstract

For the repeated cleaning of a repeatedly useable photoconducting layer in electrophotography two different cleaning steps are used, in the first of which a gentle pre-cleaning comprising an incomplete toner stripping is carried out while in the second step (i) the residual toner is removed from the photoconducting layer by an after-cleaning comprising a moist wiping process and (ii) the photoconducting layer is provided with a constantly renewed liq. lubricant film, and as a consequence of the alternate action of the two cleaning steps not only the pre-cleaning but also the after-cleaning is improved. Provides a simple, low cost and effective technique for removing toner residues from the photoconducting layer of e.g. an electrostatic copier.
