Abstract

A process and an installation are claimed for purifying a rubbish shoot, of the type fitted in multi-storey, domestic accommodation, by periodically treating it with ozone. The equipment comprises an ozone generator which is operated by an automatic time switch and delivers ozone into the shaft and/or collecting the silo of the rubbish shoot. The equipment pref. also comprises a fan which sucks in filtered air, passes it through a bank of ozone tubes and delivers the ozone into the rubbish shoot system through which it passes to exhaust. Used to deodorize, disinfect and eliminate insects such as cockroaches from rubbish shoot installations. The equipment is simple and inexpensive and readily fitted to existing rubbish shoots. Used regularly, e.g. daily and/or nightly, it is more effective yet less expensive than infrequent treatment with proprietary disinfectants.
