Abstract

A filter for liquids, particularly for use on internal combustion engines, incorporating a cylindrical cover screwed on to a base plate in which are the inlet and outlet holes, has a protuberance on the cover to accept a key for unscrewing it. The key has a U-shaped end with two points. The protuberance has a finger with two sides which come to an apex. One side is flat and the other convex. In unscrewing the cover, one branch of the key comes against the flat part while the other comes against the conves part, with its point against an abutment. If the key is turned the other way, the convexity causes it to come off, so that the key cannot tighten the cover. There are two flat parts and two convex parts forming substantially parallelogram. In alternative forms the convex sides slope curved upwards and the protuberance has four fingers. The invention allows the cover to be unscrewed with the key if it has becomes too tight in use to be unscrewed by hand, but it cannot be tightened by the key. This prevents damage of the joint. Such covers are intended to be screwed on by hand.
