Abstract

The method of making a sealing ring, consists of impregnating natural or synthetic textile fibres in an elastomeric or plastomeric solution, then making a band from these fibres, esp. by braiding, then forming the band to a ring and pressing it. Pref. the ring is formed by superimposing several layers of the band e.g. in helical form. The band itself may be impregnated with a substance compatible with the impregnating agent. The first impregnating soln. may be of such a concn. that the band material, when immersed in a liquid, possesses a specific swelling capability, or zero swelling capability. The process is simpler than cutting the ring from fabric.
