Abstract

Pipe tee fittings are made by prefabricating a straight tube of thermoplastic material and then reshaping the tube by heat and internal press. while the tube is enclosed in a split mould having annular internal recesses for locating press. seals and for forming socket end profiles on the tube and with a side chamber for converting one part of the wall surface to a radially protruding hollow stump. A subsidiary tube and socket end is also prefabricated and then welded or solvent bonded to the decapitated stump to produce te side branch of the tee. Used for making bore press. pipe fittings from e.g. PVC, polyethylene. More suitable than injection moulding of integrally branched fittings if thick walls are required, requiring lower melt viscosities and resulting in less internal stress and brittleness.
