Abstract

Packaging sheets are made by cutting staggered arrays of slots in flexible sheet or film in a pattern which allows the sheet to buckle and stretch laterally to the slot axes. The sheet is esp. suitable for tubular shrink wrap film to be fitted over articles of various different sizes, esp. for contg. goods requiring ventilation. The sheet used may be flexible or semi-rigid and may be subjected to transverse stretching either immediately after mfr. or at the time of use. The stock sheet may be slotted by multiple rotary cutters on a common shaft with blade profiles interrupted at intervals staggered with respect to adjacent blades.
